Presumed CiLV-C particles have been observed between membranes of adjacent cells near midgut and prosomal glands of viruliferous Brevipalpus phoenicis (Acari:Tenuipalpidae). Their viral nature was demonstrated by in situ immunogold labeling with a specific polyclonal antibody raised against CiLV-C p29, putative capsid protein, expressed in E. coli. No evidence for viral replication as the presence of viroplasm was obtained suggesting that the CiLV-C/ B. phoenicis relationship is of a circulative type in agreement with transmission and qRT-PCR data. Based on the intercellular localization of the CiLV-C virions, a model for their circulation within B. phoenicis is proposed, similar to that of the paracellular route of leukocyte diapedesis through the capillary endothelium |
